Attempted Murder Charges Filed After Riverwalk Homes Arrest

JOLIET, IL — The Will County State's Attorney's Office of Jim Glasgow has charged 35-year-old Riverwalk Homes resident Antonio Tobar with the attempted murder of a Joliet police officer. Tobar and another resident, James Webb, 39, were both arrested Sunday night, and the Joliet officer was taken by ambulance to the AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center. On Tuesday, Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English informed Joliet Patch that the officer is currently recovering at home after being treated and released from the hospital. On Sunday night, while the officer was dealing with Webb, Tobar attacked the officer from behind, putting him into a headlock, causing the officer to briefly go unconscious, police have said. "As the officer continued to struggle with Tobar, Webb began stomping on the officer's head and spitting on him while the officer was on the ground," police reports show. "The officer deployed a taser on Tobar, which had no effect." Joliet's Riverwalk Homes public housing complex is in the 300 block of Broadway. Image via Google Maps On Monday, Will County prosecutors charged Tobar with one count of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated battery. Webb, on the other hand, is charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer and one count of aggravated assault. A Will County judge set Tobar's bail at $1 million, while Webb's bail was set at $500,000. Tobar and Webb both reside in different apartment units in the 300 block of North Broadway Street. The public housing complex was known for years as Evergreen Terrace before being renamed Riverwalk Homes a couple years ago.
