BOLINGBROOK, IL — One person has died, and two people are seriously injured, after a crash Tuesday morning on Interstate 55 southbound near Joliet Road, Illinois State Police said. Police responded to a 3-unit motor vehicle crash at 5:01 a.m. Tuesday. Three people were taken to area hospitals with life-threatening injuries, and one person has died, police said. All southbound lanes of I-55 near Joliet Road were closed for the investigation, but reopened at 7:46 a.m., police said. Bolingbrook Police said there could be significant traffic backups on Route 53 and Boughton Road for the morning commute. Drivers should expect heavier traffic than normal and consider alternate routes.
