MOORESVILLE, NC. — The Iredell-Statesville School System took a vote Monday and decided 4-3 that masks were no longer mandatory in schools for its 20,000 students. Board members disagreed with each other on the topic, now a national debate as children 5-11 are eligible to get vaccinated. The board had its disagreements, some saying children are afraid to go to class without masks, and others saying required quarantines for positive students. The board voted 4-3 to end contact tracing as well, a service that school health officials had been assisting with to determine which students had contact with COVID positive students.
