UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A second-generation, family-owned Mexican restaurant, a dog-friendly cafe, and an affordable boutique store from a TV personality are three of the newest venues coming to the Upper West Side. El Gallo Taqueria and Black Lab Coffee will be both be located on Amsterdam Avenue in the 80s, while Central Park Resale recently moved into a building between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue on West 66th Street. Here are the new Upper West Side businesses we learned about this week: El Gallo Taqueria: 502 Amsterdam Avenue (Between West 84th and 85th Streets) El Gallo Taqueria will be an outpost of a Gravesend, Brooklyn, location of the same name: El Gallo is best known for traditional Mexican taqueria fare, made from their mother's family recipes including tacos, quesadillas and burritos made with tinga de pollo, al pastor, suadero, carnitas, carne asada and more. The original location was opened 20 years ago by two Mexican immigrants Minerva de Torres and Herminio Torres Sr., which is now owned by their sons Alejandro and Herminio Torres.The sons have overseen the expansion to the UWS.The exact public opening date isn't specified, but there will be a soft opening for friends and family on Nov. 21. Black Lab Coffee: 420 Amsterdam Avenue (Corner of West 80th Street) Black Lab Coffee is a newly created entity from the owners of Clean Bowl Club NYC, which hand-delivers packaged dog food for New Yorkers, according to ILoveTheUpperWestSide.The company told ILoveTheUpperWestSide it will be a "dog-friendly cafe and the home base for our fresh dog food as well."It is expected to open in May 2022.You can find out more on ILoveTheUpperWestSide's website. Central Park Resale: 22 West 66th Street (Between Columbus and Central Park West) Central Park West offers "stylish, gently worn fashions; affordable and trendy thrift clothing; ultra-high-end consignment purses and accessories," according to its website.The new clothing boutique was created by Tanya Young Williams, a Black businesswoman and TV personality, according to the WestSideRag.The store is open for business.You can find out more on WestSideRag's website.
