An in-depth class on specialty coffee. Learn about coffee growing, home coffee brewing, espresso extraction, and how to cup coffee.
JBC is bringing back our Craft of Specialty Coffee course! Learn about coffee growing at the farm level, how to brew better coffee at home, the science and art of espresso extraction, and how coffee professionals cup (taste) coffee. If you are interested in all things specialty coffee and espresso, this informative and in-depth class is for you.
What? The class begins with a multimedia behind-the-scenes tour of coffee farms/processing plants-explaining how coffee grows, is processed, and roasted to finally end up in your cup. Then take part in three hands-on small group work stations. At station one, you will cup coffee- learning how professionals taste, evaluate and describe coffee flavor profiles. At station two, you will learn correct procedures and techniques for manually brewing coffee using different pour-over and press methods to gain an understanding of how different brew devices create different aroma and flavor characteristics. At station three, students will learn and practice basic espresso extraction techniques.
COVID Precautions: JBC Coffee Roasters is limiting this class to 15 people. We will follow the guidelines of Dane County Public Health on masks and indoor gatherings. (If Dane County Public Health mandates or recommends masks at the time of our class, then masks will be required. If indoor gatherings once again become prohibited, the event will be cancelled and we will issue full refunds.) We are currently limiting classes to vaccinated individuals only.
