Description
Come join Girls' LEAP's fabulous Teen Mentors and Host Committee to celebrate Youth Empowerment! The youth we work with are showing up for each other, showing up for their families and showing up for themselves. They are resilient and resourceful as they cope with more than 18 months of pandemic and unrest. LEAP has been a game changer for many of them. We’ve boosted their confidence and their skills in navigating the unrelenting challenges the world throws their way today. These youth are doing more than surviving; they are thriving. Youth need us now more than ever to make sure they are able to rise above all that stands in their way today. Join us to make that possible. “Before, I doubted myself, but Girls' LEAP taught me to be confident and just to be myself." — Jerdaly, LEAP participant Learn more about Girls' LEAP : https://girlsleap.org/ Host Committee: Marydith Tuitt, Show Up for Youth Event Chair Alkia Powell, Girls' LEAP Board Chair Cynthia Brewington, Erika Butler, Catrina Cooley, Linda Dorcena Forry, Renee Dozier, Bria Gadsden, Sharee Gittens, Robert George, George “Chip” Greenidge, Nicole Maxey, Aliesha Porcena, Candice Sealey Marydith Tuitt, Event Chair MISSIONTo disrupt the violence that surrounds youth by amplifying their voices, emboldening their courage, and imparting critical life and self-defense skills so they can take on challenges with confidence. Girls' LEAP interrupts the cycle of violence by empowering girls, those who identify as girls and gender non-conforming youth to value and champion their own safety and well-being. We teach girls that they have a right to be safe and how to defend themselve when necessary. We believe all youth deserve to grow up safe and free from violence -- and that empowerment is violence prevention. We provide youth with the tools and skills to keep themselves safe, both emotionally and physically. We partner with schools and community centers to deliver empowerment self-defense training to youth, ages 8-18.
