Get excited because the November edition features a 90 minute live performance by Ethiopian music innovator and living legend Hailu Mergia! This is not an everyday show! Hailu is the man! Mergia made his name in the 1970s playing keyboards and concocting an eternally fresh blend of funk, jazz, and Ethiopian sounds in Walias Band. In the 1980s Hailu went solo and started experimenting with synthesizers and accordion you hear on Awesome Tapes From Africa's LP release of the composer's 1985 cassette “Hailu Mergia & His Classical Instrument.” And he's never stopped challenging himself and creating vital music! The last year has seen the release of his universally praised "Lala Belu" (8.0 in Pitchfork, etc) and found him the subject of recent features in the NY Times, The Guardian, and more... You don't want to miss this uncommon live music experience!
