LEADING OUR OWN with Chief Shaw:
It is not enough that we hope that leadership happens – we must be intentional about Leading Our Own. This 2-hour presentation focuses on leadership in the Fire Rescue Service. The class takes a deep dive into leadership traits and discusses the role that each member has an influencer. It discusses how perspective affects our ability to lead. It highlights the need to be intentional about being a leader, the need to model behavior, and the importance of clear and effective communication. Teamwork is discussed, in terms creating and maintaining effective teams, and how each of us is a member of a team at some level. It is an interactive, energetic class that engages each participant. It draws from numerous sources - subject matter experts, books and texts, various studies on leadership, and the experiences of the students and the instructor.
COMMAND EXPECTATIONS with Chief Morgado:
This one hour forty-five minute class will prepare Company Officers and or aspiring Company Officers to function as the initial Incident Commander by focusing on the 5 Command Expectations for the Company Officer: Initial Radio Report, Scene Size-Up, Develop the Incident Action Plan, Resource Deployment, & Transfer Command. Additional topics discussed include risk management, Follow-Up Reports, Modes of Command and Decision Making.
