The Lake Dow Community Watch has scheduled a Women's Self Defense Class hosted and instructed by the Henry County Police Department.
Join us at the Henry County Police Department on Thursday, January 21, 2021, from 6 pm to 8 pm.
Women and young ladies from the age of 13 and up are welcome.
The program starts with classroom instruction in risk awareness, risk reduction, crime prevention strategies, and defensive concepts. Later, participants will practice hands-on training in physical defense techniques in a controlled environment. These include multiple strikes to vulnerable areas, as well as escapes from chokeholds, body grabs, wrist grasps, and defense techniques from the ground.
*Please note that some hands on techniques may only be demonstrated due to social distancing precautions.*
The class is for women only. No men other than certified self-defense instructors are allowed. Children, boyfriends, and husbands cannot attend or observe the class.
The class is not a martial arts class. It is “designed to help women identify their risks, evaluate their strengths, and explore their options for dealing with the threat of sexual violence.”
Masks are strongly encouraged. Seats are limited to 20 participants.
Once you have obtained your ticket, a waiver will be emailed to you. Please be sure to complete the waiver and return it to Nancy at [email protected] prior to the start of the event.
