SHARON, MA — A 21-year-old Sharon man died after his car was hit by a vehicle police said was operating "dangerously and erratically" — and the driver of that car now faces criminal charges.
At around 8 p.m. Sunday, a witness reported a 2020 Nissan Altima driving dangerously on Route 1 northbound in Foxborough, and a Massachusetts State Police trooper patrolling that road observed the same car pass him "at an extremely high rate of speed," police said.
A state trooper began to attempt a traffic stop, but Troop Headquarters terminated the pursuit before the trooper was able to reach the driver, police said.
Shortly after, the Nissan collided with the rear of a Subaru Forrester while driving north at the intersection of Route 1 and Old Post Road in Sharon.
The driver of that Subaru, 21-year-old Kevin Earley of Sharon, died in the crash.
After striking Earley's car, the Nissan Altima crossed into the southbound lane, hitting a Dodge Durango. The Dodge's driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Nicholas Snyder, 22, of Wrentham, operator of the 2020 Nissan Altima, was arrested on criminal charges including motor vehicle homicide.
Snyder was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston and is expected to be arraigned sometime after 2 p.m. today at the Stoughton District Court, officials said.
