The Town of Sharon seeks a part-time (19 hours/week) van driver to transport elderly and disabled citizens to and from appointed destinations. Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited the following: Transport elderly and disabled citizens in getting to and from medical appointmentsAssist passengers in getting in and out of vehicles by opening doors and providing physical assistance to those who request or need itMay assist by carrying packages to doorway; ensures that passengers safely enter their dwellingsOperate a lift-equipped passenger van; operate manual and automatic wheelchair lift and mobile communication equipmentUtilize vehicle cleaning equipment and hand toolsMonitor condition of vehicles including tires, gas, oil, and bodyReport problems or deficiencies to supervisorMaintain cleanliness of vehicles at all timesMaintain daily log of mileage and other pertinent date including names of passengers, gas usage, hours of work, etc. Qualifications and experience: High school graduate, or equivalent; experience in working with elderly persons desirable; 3 years’ experience operating manual/automatic lift and communications equipment; or a combination of equivalent education and experience.Possession of a valid Massachusetts Driver's license required. Must have an excellent driving record and skill in driving a large van in all types of weather conditions.Certification in CPR, First Aid, defibrillator and wheelchair securement. Medical/eye exam, CORI check and drug/alcohol testing required.Expert knowledge in operating a passenger van with lift. Ability to interact with elderly and disabled persons in a positive and sensitive manner. Ability to perform duties with some latitude for individual judgment.General knowledge of the town street system and community facilities is helpful.
