NEWTON, MA — Now that children ages 5 to 11 are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine, the Newton Health and Human Services Department has scheduled first and second dose pediatric Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine clinics. The pediatric vaccine is a two-dose series given three weeks apart and at one-third the dose given to adults. The vaccine has proven to be safe and 91% effective in preventing COVID-19 in children, with the most common side effect being a sore arm. The first dose clinics will be held at Newton North High School and Oak Hill Middle School on Saturday, Nov. 13 and Sunday, Nov. 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The second dose clinics will be held on Saturday, Dec. 4 and Sunday, Dec. 5 at the same locations. Clinics will be held at both locations simultaneously on both days and vaccines will be administered by the Holtzman Medical Group.
