An introduction into psychological and physiological factors during Use of Force situations. The Human Dynamics in Use of Force Encounters course is an introduction to the psychological and physiological factors that affect learning, threat assessment, sensory perception, memory, and mental health. The course applies these concepts to high-stress and life-threatening encounters in law enforcement situations. At the end of the course, students will understand concepts behind learning strategies, some of the critical factors involved in use-of-force decisions, the mental, physiological, and physical performance in such situations and the aftermath of officer involved shootings. Students should be able to incorporate the concepts they learn into training programs that can enhance individual officer performance as well as departmental training and policy enhancements.
