BROOKFIELD, WI— A few broken ribs didn't stop an Olympic medalist from a great finish in the New York City Marathon. Molly Seidel, a Brookfield native, finished the NYC Marathon in fourth place and was the first American woman to finish the race, also beating the previous record set by an American woman. Her time of 2:24:42 beat Kara Goucher's record of 2:25:53, which was set in 2008, according to the New York Road Runners results website. She performed in the marathon with two broken ribs, according to multiple reports, including USA TODAY. In August, Seidel won the bronze medal at the women's marathon in the Tokyo Olympic Games. Seidel was born in Brookfield and was raised in Hartland, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.
