BOSTON, MA — Runners may have just finished the delayed 2021 Boston Marathon less than a month ago, but registration has already opened for the 2022 race.
Registration is open until Friday at 5 p.m., officials said on Twitter. The race has set qualifying standard times based on age and gender, and officials will choose runners whose submitted times reach those benchmarks.
Qualifying times can be found on the marathon's website here.
Registration for the 126th #BostonMarathon is open until 5PM ET on Friday, November 12🦄 Applications & qualifying times submitted November 8-12 will be verified & ranked based on the amount of time an athlete has run under their respective qualified standard.#Boston126 (1/2) pic.twitter.com/sAYu63RYXB— Boston Marathon (@bostonmarathon) November 8, 2021 The Boston Athletic Association will verify all applications and qualifying times, and everyone who enters will be notified of whether they were chosen in early December.
"Due to field size limitations, achieving one's qualifying standard does not guarantee entry into the event, but simply the opportunity to submit a registration application," officials wrote on the marathon's website.
The race will be capped at 30,000 runners, which is 10,000 more than October's delayed 2021 marathon.
All participants must prove that they have been fully vaccinated since prior to Friday, April 15. Medical exemptions will be considered on an individual basis, officials said.
