TOMS RIVER, NJ — The Toms River Township Council is scheduled to meet Tuesday, the first meeting after Republicans swept all four ward seats in the 2021 general election. While the council will be all GOP, it's unlikely that there will be unity, as the split in the local Republican Party remains. According to unofficial tallies, Justin Lamb won Ward 1 with 5,828 votes to 2,226 for Michele Williams. Daniel Rodrick was re-elected in Ward 2, receiving 6,169 votes to 2,754 for Jeff Horn. James Quinlisk won Ward 3 with 4,140 to 2,071 for Karin Sage, and David Ciccozzi defeated Terrance Turnbach, 4,045 to 2,993. The results remain unofficial until certified by the Ocean County Clerk, which must be done by Nov. 20. Rodrick and Lamb are anticipated to continue Rodrick's efforts to fight the remainder of the council on a regular basis, a reflection of the split within the Republican Party both in Toms River and in Ocean County. Quinlisk and Ciccozzi defeated Rodrick's running mates in Wards 3 and 4 in the GOP primary. The Toms River Regional Board of Education will continue to be a battleground politically. Incumbents Joe Nardini and Jennifer Howe were returned to the school board representing Toms River, and Anna Polozzo was returned to the South Toms River seat in spite of intensely negative campaigns by political supporters of their opponents. According to the unofficial tallies, Howe was the top vote-getter with 7,625. Nardini received 7,204, Rachel Remelgado received 7,057, Antonio Ellis received 5,240, Lynn O'Toole received 5,013, George Lobman 3,361, and Anthony Melisi 3,236. Polozzo received 321 in South Toms River, to 234 for Mary Guarin. 10th District, County Commissioner results In the 10th Legislative District and Ocean County Board of Commissioners races, the Republicans easily won election. Republican Jim Holzapfel was returned to the state Senate for the 10th District, receiving, 56,106, more than double the 25,116 received by Democrat Emma Mammano. Gregory McGuckin and John Catalano were re-elected to the Assembly seats, receiving 54,980 and 54,558 respectively. Democrat Mary "Sharon" Quilter received 24,615, and her running mate, Garitt "Tony" Kono, received 24,475. For the Board of Commissioners, Gary Quinn was re-elected, receiving 139,353 votes. Barbara "Bobbi" Jo Crea, who was seeking her first term on the board, received 135,632. Republican Gerry Little is stepping down as of Dec. 31. Democrat Catherine Paura received 56,289, and her running mate, Philip Nufrio, received 55,249. Dan Valentine and Robert Canfield, who sought the seats as members of the Libertarian Party, received 2,357 and 2,105, respectively, and Green Party candidate Barry Bendar received 1,389.
