Morning, people of Point Pleasant! It's Karen Wall, your host of the Point Pleasant Daily. First, today's weather: Sunny and milder. High: 61 Low: 41. Here are the top stories in Point Pleasant today: There are no council meetings this week in Point Pleasant and Point Pleasant Beach. The Point Beach council meeting that was set for Tuesday was canceled last month. The Point Pleasant council will continue as it has been after Antoinette De Paola and William Borowsky were re-elected Tuesday. Borowsky received 5,519 votes and DePaola received 5,502. Democrats Wayne Martiak and Derek Reichenbecher received 2,272 and 2,213, respectively. Valerie Coulson was elected to two-year unexpired term. She was unopposed for the seat. In Point Pleasant Beach, Republicans Rosa Crowley received 1,306, and Michael Ramos received 1,260. Andy Cortes, seeking re-election as an independent, received 748 votes. Here are other unofficial election results from Tuesday. They remain unofficial until certified by the Ocean County Clerk. In the race for two Point Pleasant Beach Board of Education seats, James W. Ireland was the top vote-getter with 824. Elizabeth Boyle was second with 786, and leads John Durante by 23 votes. Durante has 763. Stacey McGlinchy has 714, Three seats were up for election on the Point Pleasant Borough Board of Education. Lawrence Williams received 2,769; John Florio received 2,528; Dawn Coughlan received 2,355, and they were the top votegetters. Katharine Vaccarella received 2,160; William R Munn Jr. received 2,078; Emily Seim received 2,052; Christine Newitts receivd 1,489; Peter Hetzel received 885 and Kenneth Polakowski received 766. 10th District, County Commissioner results In the 10th Legislative District and Ocean County Board of Commissioners races, the Republicans easily won election. Republican Jim Holzapfel was returned to the state Senate for the 10th District, receiving, 56,106, more than double the 25,116 received by Democrat Emma Mammano. Gregory McGuckin and John Catalano were re-elected to the Assembly seats, receiving 54,980 and 54,558 respectively. Democrat Mary "Sharon" Quilter received 24,615, and her running mate, Garitt "Tony" Kono, received 24,475. For the Board of Commissioners, Gary Quinn was re-elected, receiving 139,353 votes. Barbara "Bobbi" Jo Crea, who was seeking her first term on the board, received 135,632. Republican Gerry Little is stepping down as of Dec. 31. Democrat Catherine Paura received 56,289, and her running mate, Philip Nufrio, received 55,249. Dan Valentine and Robert Canfield, who sought the seats as members of the Libertarian Party, received 2,357 and 2,105, respectively, and Green Party candidate Barry Bendar received 1,389.
