Welcome to the Sacramento Daily Patch Newsletter! This is where you will find all of the best news and events happening in Sacramento for Tuesday November 9th, 2021! First, today's weather: Cloudy, showers around; cool. High: 62 Low: 50. Here are the top stories today in Sacramento: A partial lunar eclipse will be visible in Sacramento on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 18-19. It's going to be an impressive event, lasting 3 hours, 28 minutes and 23 seconds. That will make it the longest lunar eclipse of the 21st century, according to NASA. Usually, light from the sun paints the face of the moon a grayish-white, but when the eclipse peaks around 1 a.m. Pacific Time on the 19th, our planet will block 98 percent of the sun's light from reaching the moon's surface, washing it in a reddish hue. (Sacramento Patch) One more reason to get rid of the time change: drowsy driving. Sleep specialists say it usually takes about a week for our bodies to be adjusted to the time change from daylight saving time. Extra officers will be on patrol in the Sacramento area this week in an effort to prevent crashes from drowsy driving. In California, there are more than 6,000 crashes every year that are attributed to drowsy driving. (KCRA3)Nearly three dozen wild mustangs are waiting to be trained at a horse ranch in Sacramento County by inmates from the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center. The wild horse program is one of 12 vocational programs being offered to inmates. The program has become a major asset for the Bureau of Land Management by training and adopting out nearly 150 wild mustangs found along the plains of Northern California and Nevada with a demand that only continues to grow. The program benefits both the wild horses and the inmates who are working in the program. "What works over there in that jail does not work over here," explained ranch manager JP Dyal. "You got two lost souls in there and they have to learn to work together to save each other. That's what you're dealing with." (FOX40)Elk Grove's Kyle Larson wraps up his comeback season with his first NASCAR title. "I can't believe it," Larson said, his voice quivering. "I didn't even think I'd be a racing a car a year-and-a-half ago. To win a championship? Crazy!" Larson's crew performed its second-fastest stop of the season and Larson went from last among the final four to first. "There were so many points in this race where I did not think we were going to win," Larson said. "Without my pit crew on that last stop, we would not be standing right here. They are the true winners of this race. They are true champions." (KCRA3)On Saturday around 10:13 p.m., police went to an apartment in the 2200 block of River Plaza Drive to investigate a report of an armed robbery in progress. One suspect immediately ran from the apartment when police arrived and he was taken into custody. The other suspect apparently gained access to a neighboring apartment and from there took refuge in the attic of the apartment building. Eventually he emerged and ran from the building and he was apprehended. Forty-year-old Anthony Hill and 33-year-old Gary Bachelor were booked into the Sacramento Main Jail on charges of robbery, false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon, and burglary.
