Rise and shine, Bedford! Here's everything you need to know to start your Wednesday off right. First, today's weather: A morning shower is possible. High: 60. Low: 33. Here are the top stories in Bedford today: A midsize New Hampshire city was named the nation's hottest housing market for the 10th time since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Manchester, N.H. topped the list once again because it's an affordable alternative to Boston, according to Realtor.com. People who work in Boston can live in New Hampshire for about 38% less. One of the biggest reasons that the Manchester-Nashua area has such a hot housing market may be flexibility with remote-work, placing it "at or near the top of our hottest markets list" several times over the past year, said Realtor.com chief Economist Danielle Hale. Hake said that homebuyers who buy in New Hampshire "can have their home and still have money left to spend on other budget priorities." (Realtor.com)Infections are spreading quickly, but you can help. State health officials released data today saying there are more than 5,164 active cases in New Hampshire which experts say are alarmingly high levels. It's the highest number of infected people the state has had since January, 2021, before vaccines were widely available. Every county has high community transmission, prompting state health officials to ask people to continue to wear masks and practice social distancing that limits the spread of this persistent, and highly-contagious virus with the potential for serve complications, including pneumonia and death, in some cases. State epidemiologist, Dr. Benjamin Chan, said vaccination is the number one tool for stopping the spread of illness. Today in New Hampshire, 5,164 people have active COVID-19 infections. Bedford has 64 active infections, with a total of 2,586, and Manchester has 419 active infections, with a total of 15,642 cases, and counting. (WMUR)Stonyfield Organic is on a fast track to use 100% renewable energy for its Londonderry facility by mid to late 2022. That's three years ahead of a commitment the company announced in June to make its Londonderry facility completely powered by renewable energy no later than 2025. Stonyfield Organic said they bought renewable energy credits from a solar farm in Rushford Village, Minn., and two other midwestern solar arrays, and the company is the only subscriber of four new solar installations in New Hampshire. How did Stoneyfield Organic do what others say will take a decade or more to accomplish? Spokeswoman Kristina Drociak said. "I think it was just a lot of fast and hard work with our sustainability director and partners in New Hampshire." (The Union Leader) Today's Bedford Daily is brought to you by Newrez.
