PITTSBURGH, PA — Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Louis Lipps was arrested Saturday night after crashing his vehicle into a parked trailer on Ruth Street in Mt. Washington. He has been charged with two counts of driving under the influence, according to court documents. A police officer at the scene could smell alcohol on Lipps' breath, according to police. Lipps admitted he had "a lot" to drink. He was unaware that his truck had struck the trailer and failed a field sobriety test, police said. Test results showed his blood-alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit. Lipps, 59, was the Steelers first-round draft choice in 1984 and was the National Football Leagues' offensive rookie of the year. He played for the team through 1991 and then for the New Orleans Saints in 1992 before retiring. Lipps is scheduled to be inducted into the Steelers' Hall of Honor this weekend before the team plays the Detroit Lions on Sunday. The Steelers have not commented on the arrest.
