MALIBU, CA — New Malibu local Ye — better known by his former name, Kanye West — has found himself in hot water over his clothing and shoe brand, Yeezy Apparel.
Yeezy LLC and Yeezy Apparel LLC, Ye's two Southern California-based companies, were ordered on Wednesday to pay a $950,000 settlement in a civil lawsuit alleging "unreasonably long waits for purchases" which were falsely advertised to buyers, according to Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón.
The lawsuit was filed by the state of California on Oct. 22, the Los Angeles Times reported.
State law requires online orders to be shipped in 30 days. If a seller cannot meet that timeframe, they must notify customers and offer refunds. Ye's brand did not give these delay notices, the lawsuit alleged.
The company allegedly made false promises about shipping times and particularly expedited shipping — which comes with an additional cost, Gascón said in a news release.
Gascón said the companies complied with investigations by the District Attorney's Consumer Protection Division but "did not admit wrongdoing."
