GRAYSLAKE, IL — The Grayslake Village Board last week approved funding to help pay to replace trees lost following a tornado in 2015 and others lost due to the invasive emerald ash borer.
The Daily Herald reports the village will spend $51,000 on its neighborhood planting program and $40,000 on a multiyear native planning initiative. During the 2015 tornado, about 180 village trees were lost, including many near Grayslake Central High School, and the emerald ash borer has infected 350 of the village's 1,850 ash trees.
