Leaves Slow To Drop, City Pushes Collection Back At Least 1 Week

GENEVA, IL — Leaves have been slow to fall this season, and Geneva officials said Monday that as a result, they're pushing the third and final leaf collection back by at least a week. Officials credited the slower drop to a dry summer and an "unreasonably warm start to the fall season." As of Monday, the leaf collection is scheduled for Nov. 22 in Zone A, Dec. 2 in Zone B, and Nov. 29 in Zone C. The schedule can still change because of inclement weather or equipment breakdown, city staff said in an update. Residents can keep their eyes out for possible changes on the city's website. The first round of leaf collection was completed Nov. 1, and the second round is running according to schedule. For the upcoming collection, residents are required to rake their leaves to the parkway before Kramer Tree Specialists, the city's contractor, come for the pickup. Residents who are looking to dispose of leaves in December can bag them up in brown yard waste bags and set outside for regular garbage collection day. The final day for pickup as part of the leaf bag program will be the week of Dec. 27. Anyone with questions can contact the public works department by calling 630-232-1501.
