ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst handled cases involving disorderly conduct, a business break-in, a fraudulent car purchase, stolen rings, a van theft and an overdose. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports: Dancing and disorderly Leonard R. Lofton, 59, of Chicago, was cited about 6:30 p.m. Friday in the 100 block of Knighton on two counts of disorderly conduct. He was released on bond. According to a police report, a woman told officers that Lofton was trying to open her secured front door. Officers saw Lofton dancing in the parking lot. Business break-in Police responded to a burglary alarm about 4 a.m. Sunday at Sulkar Media, 466 W. Lake St. Officers saw a broken glass window on the northeast side of the building. Video surveillance showed that a man smashed a pane of glass with a potted plant, entered the business and approached a gray BMW parked inside. The person left the building and entered a waiting car. Nothing was stolen. The first suspect was described as black and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, light shorts and yellow gloves. A second suspect was described as a black man and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, black pants and orange gloves. Fraudulent car purchase Okaz Motors, 594 W. Lake St., told police Friday that a man used fraudulent information to successfully buy a silver 2015 Mercedes-Benz. The suspect was described as black, 5-foot-10, 225 pounds, and wearing maroon scrubs. The case is pending an investigation. Rings stolen A woman in an assisted living facility in the 100 block of West Brush Hill Road told police that a person helped her wash her hands on Nov. 1 or Nov. 2 and asked her to remove her rings in the process. The person left and never returned. The assisted living director said the facility was investigating the matter. Police are also looking into it. Van theft A man entered a parked van and stole it about 11:30 p.m. Thursday at MLE Merchandising Distributors, 540 W. Lamont Road. The van was recovered in Franklin Park. The suspect was described as black, 30 to 45 years old, and wearing a black sweatshirt, blue jeans and black shoes. Converters stolen A catalytic converter was stolen from a car between 2 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. Thursday in the 400 block of North York Street. Another one was stolen Friday morning in the 800 block of North York Street. Check scam A couple in the 400 block of South Fairview Avenue told police their daughter received a check from a suspect via email. The daughter deposited the check, and the suspect then requested she send back money. The parents contacted the bank, which informed them the check was mostly likely fraudulent. No money was sent, and there is no loss. The daughter was advised to cease further contact. Bicycle stolen A blue Schwinn bicycle was stolen between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday from the bike rack on the north side of the train station, 128 W. First St. The bike was locked. Suspicious noise A resident in the 200 block of Oak Street called police about 3 a.m. Saturday about a noise near her basement window on the south side of the house. Officers checked the area, but found that nothing appeared to be disturbed. Traffic dispute A person told police that he and his wife were involved in a traffic dispute with another driver about 3:30 p.m. Friday at St. Charles Road and Prospect Avenue. During the incident, the other driver was said to have raised his jacket at the waist. The husband and wife left, fearing the other driver had a weapon. An officer contacted the other driver, who said he was involved in the dispute but denied raising his jacket. Overdose Officers and medics responded to a person who was not conscious and appeared to be overdosing. Medics administered Narcan, and the victim regained consciousness. The person was taken to the hospital. Identity theft A resident in the 100 block of Berteau Avenue told police Saturday that someone used her personal information to obtain a fraudulent driver's license. The person used the license during a traffic stop in Chicago. Driving violations Julio Cruz Lopez, 50, of Morgantown, North Carolina, was cited about 11 p.m. Saturday at Grand and Crown on charges of no valid driver's license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and no seat belt. He was released on bond. Jermael Morris, 28, of Cicero, was cited at 11:30 p.m. Saturday at Shady and North on charges of driving with a suspended license, possession of marijuana by a driver and disobeying a stop sign. He was released on bond. Warrant Bryan A. Ortiz, 43, of Brookfield, was arrested about 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Jewel, 153 Schiller St., on a warrant. He was released to the Hodgkins Police Department. Police report information is provided by local police departments. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
