Description
WESTMONT, IL — The newest Amazon Fresh store in Illinois made its debut in Westmont Thursday, featuring "Just Walk Out" technology that allows customers to skip the checkout line with the help of a virtual shopping cart.
Customers who opt for the "Just Walk Out" shopping experience can scan a QR code via the Amazon app and enter via the store's "Just Walk Out" gates. Each item the customer then removes from the shelf is automatically added to a virtual shopping cart.
Change your mind about an item? Simply place it back on the shelf and it will be removed from your virtual shopping cart. Once their shopping trip is done, customers can scan the "Just Walk Out" app to leave the store.
Shoppers who choose not to use the "Just Walk Out" technology can visit a traditional cash register to pay with cash, SNAP EBT, credit or debit card, or use of the In-Store QR code in the Amazon app.
The 35,000 square foot store is stocked with fresh produce, baked goods and foods that are prepared daily in-house. The selection also includes 365 by Whole Foods Market organic products, along with national and local brands.
Amazon Fresh Westmont plans to donate surplus food and other items to food banks in the area, a news release said.
The first Amazon Fresh store in Illinois opened in Naperville in late 2020. Amazon Fresh stores are also located in Bloomingdale, Oak Lawn and Schaumburg.
The Amazon Fresh store in Westmont is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week at 30 W. 63rd St.
