CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — The switch to automated trash collection in Cleveland Heights will be delayed until at least the spring. As Patch first reported, supply chain issues have derailed the city's plans to distribute new refuse and recycling carts. City officials now say supply chain problems have also delayed receipt of the automated collection trucks. Over the weekend, city officials reiterated that the soonest automated collection could be implemented is spring 2022. "Once we receive delivery of our automated collection trucks, the date the program begins will be announced," the city said in a statement. Live in Cleveland Heights? Currently, residents cannot place their garbage into cans and leave those cans at the curb. Instead, residents must bag their trash and leave the bags at the curb for collection. This leaves the bags vulnerable overnight to animals and weather, frequently allowing trash to blow into streets, lawns or surrounding woods. City officials are hoping a move to automated collection in early spring will mitigate some of the above issues.
