CHARLOTTE, NC — The Mecklenburg County indoor mask mandate could end as soon as November 17th, according to the county commission. The Mecklenburg County Commission voted unanimously to allow the mask mandate to expire as soon as the rate of positivity of COVID-19 cases falls below 5 percent for the county for a period of one week. The indoor mask mandate was instituted back in late August as the COVID Delta variant spiked. As for why it may take until Nov. 17, that's because after a vote takes place of this nature, it requires ten days for legal notice, and the official notification happened Sunday Nov. 7. As of November 3 according to the Mecklenburg County Government website, the rate of positivity over the prior seven-day period was 5.5 percent. Out of more than 1.1 million Mecklenburg County residents, 637,000 are fully vaccinated as of Nov. 4, 2021. Live in Charlotte?
