Fatal Walmart Police Shooting Under Investigation

Per standard protocol, two officers are on administrative leave following the fatal shooting of a man at an East Charlotte Walmart on Friday. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say Walmart security called them Friday evening to report a man armed with a gun, threatening to shoot officers. According to the Associated Press, police responded and found the man to be a "lethal threat." According to police, officers then shot 23-year-old Derrell Lamar Raney outside of the Walmart; he was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The two officers, James Longworth and Micah Edmunds will be on leave until the outcome of the state investigation into the shooting. Read more at the Associated Press.
