Happy Tuesday, Grand Rapids! Let's get this day started. Here are the most important things going on around Grand Rapids today. First, today's weather: Cloudy and mild. High: 55 Low: 32. Here are the top stories today in Grand Rapids: Terra Bagels will be opening a downtown Grand Rapids location next month in the 40 Pearl/Michigan Trust Building. Terra Bagels will fill the vacancy left by Ferris Coffee, which permanently closed its 40 Pearl location in May. The restaurant will serve over a dozen different flavors of bagels boiled and baked fresh daily, as well as homemade schmears — an array of sandwiches highlighting its in-house crafted lox and pastrami program. (GR|MAG)The Grand Rapids Police Department has received a $120,000 grant from the US Department of Justice. The grant is part of a nationwide program created by the Office of Community Policing Services (COPS), with the intention to develop and implement new strategies, increase knowledge regarding effective practices and outcomes, and new approaches to community safety. Hoping to address factors that lead to the breakdown of public trust, GRPD will use this grant "to implement a universal in-service mental health wellness training for sworn officers and eligible civilian staff."
