Hello, neighbors! Kathy Cioffi here with your Monday copy of theAtlanta Daily. First, today's weather: Plenty of sunshine. High: 71 Low: 45. Here are the top stories today in Atlanta: It's been about three months since a natural gas fire heavily damaged the bridge over South Fork Peachtree Creek on Cheshire Bridge, rendering the bridge impassable. This week, Atlanta's Department of Transportation will begin demolishing the bridge so it can be replaced. Businesses on both sides of the creek, as well as traffic along one of Atlanta's busier roads, have been heavily impacted by the closure. While detour directions have been posted on the Atlanta DOT's website, the nearest roads that cross Peachtree Creek – Lenox Road and Piedmont Road – are expected to continue experiencing increased traffic during the bridge's demolition and replacement. While Knight had lent her name to her son's enterprise, she was not involved with any of the daily operations. Hankerson's popular Chicken and Waffles shop closed for good in 2017, shortly after a lawsuit forced him to remove Knight's name. Hankerson was convicted in July on charges that he had not submitted over $1 million in payroll taxes he had owed the government while running the then-successful restaurant chain. In addition to the prison term, he received one year of supervised release and has to repay $1,039,310.65 which, according to the Internal Revenue Service, was what he owes. (WSB Atlanta) Six episodes of a drama based on the bestselling 1998 Tom Wolfe novel "A Man in Full," which concerns an Atlanta real estate mogul's fall from grace, has been picked up by Netflix. Regina King and David E. Kelley are teaming up as executive producers to bring Wolfe's sprawling book – a National Book Award finalist and New York Times best seller – to the small screen. With the book set in Atlanta, it's likely Netflix will also shoot the series in the area, adding to other Atlanta-filmed Netflix shows including "Ozark," Stranger Things" and "Sweet Magnolias." (Free: Variety.com; Subscription: The Atlanta Journal Constitution) A shooting around the 500 block of Piedmont Avenue near Renaissance Park Friday night has left one man dead. Atlanta police believe at least one suspect approached the victim and fired at him near the park in Old Fourth Ward. Despite lifesaving efforts at an area hospital, where officers met with the as-yet unidentified man around 8:45 p.m., he did not survive. Investigators are continuing to collect information on the incident. ( The Atlanta Journal Constitution)Thanks to Friday's World Championship parade, during which the caravan ferrying Braves players flew down Peachtree Street, Atlanta now has a host of bus memes flooding social media. As WSB-TV Sports Director Zach Klein joked on air, "It's the fastest anyone's ever gone down Peachtree in Atlanta traffic." And fans – many of whom had waited hours in the cold for brief glimpses of their hometown heroes – responded with an assortment of speeding bus memes.
