Title: Operator Company: Marathon Petroleum Company LP Location: St. Paul Park, MN The Marathon Petroleum St. Paul Park Refinery is seeking highly motivated Operators to join our team. These positions are responsible for the day to day operations of the refinery and work rotating 12-hour shifts. The refinery operates 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. Refinery operators at this facility perform a variety of duties. Although responsibilities vary on a daily basis, the primary responsibility of an operator is to oversee the day-to-day operations of either the tank farms within the refinery or the various operating units within the refinery. Other primary responsibilities will include: *Working inside and outside, in differing climatic conditions, and around noises, heat, heights and equipment associated with working in and around an oil refinery *Conducting periodic rounds performing the following duties: monitoring equipment and recording readings, making required adjustments, troubleshooting process and equipment problems including but not limited to general equipment checks and detecting unusual operating conditions (such as noises, abnormal temperature or pressure, and leaks). *Detecting and responding to process upsets and emergency situations with response activities including but not limited to fire fighting, equipment isolation and evacuation. *Wearing all personal protective equipment (P.P.E.) including self-contained breathing apparatus. *Participating in emergency response activities. *Learning refining process operations/tank farm product movements and qualifying on process/tank farm jobs. *Learning and working multiple jobs up to and including the console operator position (control refinery process through computer system). Operators work in a safety-sensitive environment and must successfully complete a rigorous pre-employment assessment process, drug/alcohol and medical screenings, and a background check. To ensure safe operations, new hires must also successfully complete operator qualification training and participate in random drug and alcohol screenings. Required Qualifications *High School graduate or GED equivalent. *At least 18 years of age. *Willing to work 12-hour rotating shift schedule including weekends, nights, holidays, and overtime. *Willing to climb ladders and work at heights. *Basic math, reading, writing, and verbal skills. *Basic computer skills. *Ability to learn complex refinery related material. *Willingness to perform fire and emergency response activities. *Adherence to a strict Drug and Alcohol policy. *Be fit to perform the essential functions of the job. Preferred Qualifications *Possess some relevant education, training, and/or work experience with a minimum of: *Completion of a two-year vocational technical training curriculum in petrochemical/manufacturing or related field, *OR two years equivalent work experience in process operation/maintenance crafts area, *OR completion of a four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited university, *OR five years stable work experience in a light industrial or commercial industry. *Good mechanical aptitude, oral and written communication skills, and sound decision-making ability. *Ability to perform well in a team environment working with little supervision to prioritize daily work schedules depending on operational requirements. *Any combination equivalent to education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. *Previous operator or petrochemical plant experience is a plus. Physical Requirements Work performed at ground level and at heights on concrete, metal grating, gravel, asphalt, and piping surfaces, while climbing, lifting 40 pounds plus, carrying 10-20 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 250 pounds with mechanical assistance, and working in confined spaces.
