About Hip Hop
Hip Hop as a dance form emerged from New York City in the 1970s and is often associated with rap music. It started as break dancing and what emerged was many other street dance forms that are seen in music videos. New style hip-hop is choreographed hip-hop social dancing. From a technical aspect, it is characterized as hard-hitting involving flexibility and isolations—moving a specific body part independently from others. The feet are grounded, the chest is down, and the body is kept loose so that dancers can easily alternate between hitting the beat or moving through the beat. Hip Hop classes are fun. We have both beginning and intermediate hip hop dance classes available. Note that all music and costumes (should the student be involved in a performance) are age appropriate.
