Description

Seeking Handyperson Apprenticeship in exchange for FREE labor. You teach me what you know about the trade, and I’ll lend a hand with any projects you’re working on at no cost to you! Instead of paying me with currency for my labor, you will pay me with tutorials and provide me with on the job experience. Looking for someone who is passionate about being a handyman or handywoman, and is willing to share what you know. Looking for someone who knows how to transfer knowledge - Please don’t just tell me, show me what you're doing, and then provide me with the opportunity to apply what you’ve taught me with on the job experience. About me: I’m a friendly, outgoing, hard working, eager to learn, and quirky gal (for example, I’m ALWAYS game to discuss 80s cartoons or 90s music! haha!). I wholeheartedly believe in the Horton Hears a Who quote - “I meant what I said and I said what I meant.” Similarly, Herbert Hoover’s “Words without actions are the assassins of idealism” is also something I hold close to my heart. You don’t have to share these beliefs, but if you do, I think we’ll gel pretty well =) Why I’m posting this: I’m a 40 something year old female who is at a crossroads in life, and is ready for CHANGE. Earlier this year I quit my job, sold my house, and moved over 600 miles to be closer to family. Yes, did I mention, I’m ready for change?! =) Prior to moving, I worked in the nonprofit sector and had a “stable” 9 to 5 type of job. Now for the first time in nearly a decade, I have had time to stop, take an honest look at my life and the choices I’ve made, and whether they’ve been the right decisions for me. One thing I have realized is I hate spending most of my day on screens! Hoping Zoom meetings, all day emails, and spreadsheets are a thing of the past! Instead I would prefer to move, would like to use my hands and build and/or fix things. While I’ll admit I have very little experience with fixing/building, the few repairs I did when I lived in my house, were very fulfilling. Likewise, whenever I’ve assembled furniture myself, I’ve loved the feeling of assembling it on my own and the accomplishment that came with it. I’ve been toying with the idea of moving into the handyperson industry as a side hustle (or maybe even possibly a full career transition?), but would like to get the experience and see for myself if this it's the right path for me. What I’m looking for: A 1-2 month handyperson apprenticeship in the Silver Spring, Takoma Park and/or Bethesda areas. Ideally we’d work together for 15-20 hours per week, but I can commit to a few more hours, if needed. I have a car and own a basic toolbox. FOR ANYONE CONSIDERING THIS - I’m happy to meet you for an informational coffee meet & greet (coffee is my treat!). After that, we can decide if we’d like to proceed with the apprenticeship. Thank you in advance for reading all of this and for your time and consideration, I really appreciate it. Hope you have a great day!
