Description

"Photography cannot be just a privilege, it’s a responsibility" -Neeta Satam Explore the power of photography with Cleveland Print Room's Photojournalism Crew. As a team, these young photographers search out local stories that beg to be told through photography. Make photos on location, understand your rights as a photographer, improve your technique, and study examples of great photojournalism. Learn from visiting photojournalists from the Pulitzer Foundation and the Civil Rights Commission. Make newsworthy photos in the field during trips to local events, like demonstrations and festivals, which may take place outside of the regular meeting time. This group will meet for eight sessions on Sundays, 2:00-3:30 pm, October 17, 24 and November 7, 14, 21 with three sessions on location around Cleveland, TBD. FREE for young artists ages 12-21. Transportation is provided. PJ Crew is led by Photojournalist Lexi Deet (she/her/hers). Lexi was raised in Cleveland Heights until she graduated early from Cleveland Heights High to study abroad in a small town outside of Santiago, Chile. Her passion for photography and creative storytelling led her back to Ohio where she earned Bachelor’s Degrees in Photojournalism and Spanish with a Minor in Anthropology at Ohio University. Lexi made her way back to Cleveland Heights to continue humanitarian and creative pursuits with an emphasis on her favorite medium - photography. She teaches photo classes with the Loving Hands Group – providing life enrichment programs to seniors and persons with disabilities – as well as with CPR. She also photographs weddings and other events. Aside from photography Lexi loves reading, dogs, nature and learning new things. Thank you to the Cleveland Foundation for their support of our Photo Arts Mastery Program. Photo by teaching artist and photojournalist Lexi Deet.
