Here are the top stories in Sacramento today: A police K-9 was stabbed in the torso Friday night during an arrest, according to the Sacramento Police Canine Association. The K-9, named Ranger, was deployed during an arrest on the 5300 block of 9th Avenue. The suspect, later identified as 58-year-old Hans Schroeder, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries to his arm from Ranger. Ranger was taken to VCA hospital soon after the incident and is expected to make a full recovery, police said. (KCRA3) A major injury crash closed roads near 24th Street and Fruitridge Road Saturday morning. The crash happened near the light rail station in the area and made the tracks impassable, according to Sacramento Regional Transit. A bus bridged riders on the Blue Line between Sacramento City College and 47th Avenue Stations, due to the crash. (FOX40) Sacramento District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert is announcing the results of a major crackdown on sex trafficking. The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, Sacramento Police, Folsom Police, the Sacramento District Attorney's office, California Highway Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation all took part in the operation. They made more than 20 arrests for things like pimping, pandering, and human trafficking of a minor over the span of one week in October 2021. (ABC10)A Sacramento man currently serving a sentence in the county Main Jail was identified as a suspect accused of a violent home invasion robbery in Merced back in September, police announced Friday. According to the Merced Police Department officers responded on September 11 to a home on Kingsland Avenue. A woman was located in the backyard tied up and badly beaten and officers determined multiple items were stolen from her home. Alexis Vega-Higareda faces charges of home invasion, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and burglary for the crime. (Good Day Sacramento)The California Highway Patrol said they learned of a pedestrian lying in the road near Florin and French roads at about 3:07 a.m. on Saturday morning. Whoever hit and killed the man drove away before officers arrived, according to the CHP. The CHP did not release the victim's identity or a description of the suspected vehicle. The CHP asks anyone with information regarding this case to call 916-897-1300. (ABC10) Sunday's events in Sacramento: Take the Crocker Architecture Tour at the Crocker Art Museum.
