DARIEN, IL — Darien saw a slight drop in new coronavirus cases in the last week, according to the DuPage County Health Department. As of Sunday, Darien had seen 2,076 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 21 in the last week. The week before last, the city experienced 23 new cases. The city's number of coronavirus deaths stayed the same in the last week, at 25. The deaths work out to about a thousandth of Darien's population. The number of those who have recovered is unavailable. As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,712,986, a 1 percent increase from the previous week, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 25,948. Nationally, 46.4 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, a 1.1 percent increase from the previous week, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 751,535 people have died from the virus in the United States.
