Join us to remember and honor Dunes Learning Center co-founder Lee Botts.
Dunes Learning Center invites you to honor the legacy of Lee Botts, environmental education icon and Great Lakes champion. Join family and friends as we remember her tenacity as a driving force in the designation of Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore decades ago, and her joy at hearing the news that it was officially designated the 61st National Park last year.
We’ll reminisce about her storied international career, including how she was often referred to as the “Lady of the Lake” for her passion and dedication to clean water. She was the founding leader of the Lake Michigan Federation (now the Alliance for the Great Lakes) and helped organize the city of Chicago’s first Earth Day celebration. As the first executive director of Dunes Learning Center, Lee was a driving force for environmental education in Northwest Indiana.
A short program celebrating Lee's life will be held at 11:30am. Following a light lunch, you can enjoy a stroll around campus where Lee’s legacy lives on in the children who have the opportunity to live and learn together in their National Park.
Please register here to help us plan for lunch.
