Having been members of your community for a few years in the past, we know the power and potential of your voices, opinions and influence. We believe that imaginations thrive with diverse information and experiences. So, we are inviting you to learn about the historic value of one of our city’s most impressive monuments. St. Mary Catholic church sits at the edge of Lockerbie Square downtown, just one block away from the Athenaeum and Mass Ave. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it is a Gothic Revival architectural treasure rich in community history and with ties to the Cologne Cathedral in Germany. Nationally recognized historic preservation architect and Lockerbie resident, James T. Kienle, Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, will lead a presentation and discussion of St. Mary’s unique attributes after wine and cheese on Monday, November 15. We will gather outside the church in the Grotto area on the south side of the church at 5:30 p.m. before entering the side door to this grand hall-style church, with its multi-colored stained-glass windows. We believe that if you attend, you will learn a little something that you will enjoy and will perhaps have an increased appreciation for our downtown’s built environment. We would be pleased for you bring guests you think would be interested. Or, if there is someone you think should receive an invitation, please let us know. We hope to see you on the 15th. Thank you for your attention and consideration, Helen Small, President and CEO, retired, American Pianists Association Lewis Ricci, Executive Director, retired, Indiana Arts Commission St. Mary Catholic Church is a staple in the Mass Ave. landscape, situated between the Chatam Arch and Lockerbie neighborhoods. St. Mary has a huge focus on the Hispanic population of Indianapolis with Spanish masses offered multiple times every weekend. We are a familial congregation welcoming all with open arms.
