Rachel Brooke
Michigan’s Rachel Brooke might just be one of the best kept secrets in
country music. Growing up performing in the family bluegrass band, as
well as women-fronted punk bands, Rachel Brooke’s honesty,
authenticity and DIY work ethic has earned her the title of “The Queen of
Underground Country”
Brooke’s voice lands somewhere between Loretta Lynn and Tammy
Wynette, with an authenticity and directness that catches the ear like the
truth of an unexpected confession or hard-won revelation...It’s the deep
combination of country bluegrass meeting gothic blues sung through a
sage’s smile that Brooke has been perfecting since her first self-titled
release in 2008.
Her newest critically acclaimed album, The Loneliness In Me (2020), has
recently been featured in major media outlets like CMT, Parade, Glide,
and Cowboys and Indians, and has garnered the attention from Nashville
big-wigs to cutting edge roots-festivals and DIY folk fans alike.
Brooke wants clearly to walk a line between the past and present. She
does just that with her high-caliber musicianship which, while not
chained by tradition, is unabashed by her indebtedness to the poetic
souls of the past.
