Description

Due to COVID-19, organizers will host the Athens MLK Day Parade and Music Festival (caravan style). We encourage all participants to join us by vehicle (car, truck, van, motorcycle) and to practice social distancing by wearing a mask, remaining in your vehicle/unit and keeping your hands sanitized. The parade begins 3pm in front of the Morton Theater at 195 West Washington Street, Athens, GA 30601. What to expect: 1:00 pm Set-up and Check-in in front of Morton Theatre (parade participants will line up based on first come first serve). 3:00 Parade Begins (on the corner of Hull and Washington Street) Maximum 5 vehicles per participant (must decorate vehicles)Maximum 10 motor cycles per participant We encourage parade participants to remain inside their vehicles and/or their unit. Signage/Posters: Participants may promote a cause or a positive message by creating their own signs-banners. 4:00 pm Honoree Ceremony:  Features African American elders and pioneers of Athens, GAEach year the United Group of Artists Music Association gives back to the community by donating a percentage of the proceeds to the Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement (AADM). The AADM has been a vital force in promoting the philosophies and goals of Dr. Martin Luther King in the Athens-Clarke County community.  AADM advocates for equal justice, opportunity, and economic advancement for all persons.  For more information please contact 678-740-3884
