Can you imagine growing up in the Matrix and finding out your whole life was a complete illusion? This memoir is the heart and soul of a girl who basically grew up in a parallel universe created by her mother, an untreated paranoid schizophrenic. As a result of having to constantly prepare for battles in both spiritual & physical worlds, Kelly developed complex ptsd (cptsd). She suffered severe anxiety & bouts of depression throughout her teens & young adulthood. Finding her voice saved her life. In writing the story of her healing journey, she stands in solidarity with other trauma victims to break stigma and empower you to find your voice too. The world needs to hear it. Kelly Hanwright is the author of The Locust Years, a new poetic memoir on growing up with a parent who had undiagnosed schizophrenia. A poet, teacher, dog trainer and self-proclaimed rogue living in the beautiful Smoky Mountains, she loves her life with the man who helped restore its meaning. She pinches herself to make sure she’s not dreaming every day that she gets to pass on the magical, healing gift of language to her high school students. A Best-of-the-Net and two-time Pushcart Prize nominee, she plans to continue both devouring and publishing poetry. Work has appeared in Lady Literary Magazine, Birmingham Arts Journal, SoulLit, Heart of Flesh Literary Journal, American Diversity Report, and more. The Locust Years is available on Amazon, as well as Winder Binder bookstore in Chattanooga and The Mad Raven in Sparta. Check out Kelly's blog , "Here's to Sincerity and Truth: There IS Regeneration," and follow her on Facebook.
