LAKEWOOD, NJ — A helicopter that landed twice in a vacant lot in Brooklyn was followed all the way to Lakewood by the NYPD, police and reports said. The Lakewood Scoop published video of the NYPD helicopter landing in Lakewood on Thursday afternoon. The video shows an NYPD officer getting out of the helicopter and approaching another helicopter sitting on the ground at the airport. An NYPD spokesperson told Patch someone called 911 in Brooklyn about 12:30 p.m. after the helicopter was seen flying low and landing at a vacant lot near Troy Avenue and Carroll Street. Witnesses told the New York Post the aircraft took off and landed twice before flying away from the neighborhood, followed by an NYPD Aviation Unit. The Lakewood Scoop reported it picked up multiple passengers. The NYPD was able to identify the pilot and the aircraft and notified the Federal Aviation Administration, the NYPD spokesperson said. "The FAA is aware of the operation and is looking into the matter," an FAA spokesperson said in an emailed statement. In June, complaints about a helicopter flying low over a Toms River neighborhood led to a resident being cited for having an unauthorized helipad on his property.
