SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — Do you want to learn more about Orange County's largest recycled water reservoir? The City of San Juan Capistrano is changing water and utility systems to the Rancho Santa Margarita Water District, and a free tour is being offered to all San Juan Capistrano residents who want to learn more about the city's latest water supplier. The Rancho Santa Margarita Water District is hosting a free Trampas Canyon Reservoir & Damn Tour, and the San Juan Capistrano community is invited to register and attend. The tour takes place on Nov. 18, just two days after the city shifts water providers from San Juan Capistrano Water and Wastewater Facilities to the Rancho Santa Margarita Water District. "We are committed to enhancing water supply reliability, investing in the aging wastewater system, and providing superior customer care to the residents of San Juan Capistrano," said Chuck Gibson, President of the Rancho Santa Margarita Water District Board of Directors, in a news statement released in August. According to the Rancho Santa Margarita Water District's website, Trampas Canyon Reservoir represents "a bold step forward for a sustainable water supply for future generations." It is an eco-enhancing resource that captures and stores highly treated wastewater so it can be used for irrigation instead of drinking water. The reservoir was completed in October 2020, and currently has the capacity to hold 1.6 billion gallons of treated recycled water. Residents interested in participating in the free tour must register on the city's website. The tour bus leaves the Ground Water Recovery Plant located at City Hall, 32400 Paseo Adelanto, at 3:30 p.m. and the tour is expected to last until 5:30 p.m.
