Happy Saturday, people of Atlanta! Here's everything you need to know going on in town today. First, today's weather: Periods of sun. High: 58 Low: 37. Here are the top stories in Atlanta today: Enormous crowds lined streets in Atlanta and Cobb County Friday afternoon, cheering on the Atlanta Braves during a World Series victory parade. Throngs gathered along Peachtree Street scrambled for pearls tossed by Joc Pederson while, inside Truist Park, a sold-out crowd awaited the team's arrival to keep the party going. It's been 26 years since Atlanta has celebrated a World Series win. In 1995, the Braves beat Cleveland to claim the championship. This year, Atlanta defeated the Houston Astros in Game 6 in Houston. Plans by the Rockefeller Group call for a 61-story tower at the southwest corner of West Peachtree Street and 12th Street. Karl Smith-Davids, project manager for Midtown Alliance, said the new tower would be 733 feet – 10 feet taller than Atlanta's current fifth-tallest building, the 723-foot Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel. The tallest building in Atlanta – and the state – is the 1,023-foot-tall Bank of America Plaza. The public visitation for Moore, 54, was held at Gregory B. Levett and Sons Funeral Home in Decatur. The beloved newswoman had worked with Channel 2 Action News since 1998. A native New Yorker, Moore died seven months after being diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer with no cure. Funeral services were private with Dr. Jamal Bryant, pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, delivering the eulogy. (On Common Ground News)The old Ramada Plaza hotel on Capitol Avenue in Summerhill is slated to be converted into a mixed-use apartment complex. Pellerin Real Estate recently filed for a construction permit to start work on an adaptive reuse of the shuttered 375-room hotel, once a favorite with Atlanta Braves fans at the old Fulton County Stadium and Turner Field, as well as visitors to the State Capitol and conventioneers. Now Packer, known for films "Think Like a Man," "Ride Along" and "Girls Trip," also has his name on an amphitheater at Florida's only public historically Black university, Florida A&M. Packer, a 1996 FAMU electrical engineering graduate, donated $500,000 to his alma mater for the amphitheater, the christening for which was taped for actor Kevin Hart's podcast. Packer's other friends on hand included R&B singer Anthony Hamilton, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and Atlanta media personality Rashan Ali.
