You're invited to the Milwaukee Career & Employment Summit. This event is free and open to the public. Advance registration is NOT required but is encouraged at website: The Milwaukee Career & Employment Summit seeks to bridge historical divisions in our Milwaukee community and provide better opportunities for employment for all. The Summit will also host a Career and Employment fair where those seeking careers and jobs will interface with employers and agencies who can offer good careers, jobs and career enhancement programs. Jobseekers with barriers to employment are most welcome. What to expect: 10 a. m.: Welcome, panel discussion & community dialogue The panel discussion will be comprised of testimonies from individuals who have overcome significant obstacles to employment, and presentations by employers and agencies who have a track record of employing people with obstacles to employment. 11 a. m.- 2 p.m.: Career Summit, Job Fair, Resource Fair Job Fair: Up to 30 employers with immediate job openings, including Advocate Aurora Health & Harrigan Solutions. Resource Fair: 20 agencies that help people overcome barriers to employment, including High School Diploma & Drivers License Recovery Details of Career Summit: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Water Sector Careers Classroom #1 Learn about the variety of good jobs and careers in the water sector. Representatives from Milwaukee Water Works and Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District will talk about what kinds of jobs are available and the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to get into the industries. Come learn how you can prepare for a good job and contribute to good public health! 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Construction Trades – Wisconsin Regional Training Partnership Classroom #2 Learn about how to get into training for skilled trades, which are in high demand and provide good pay and benefits. There will be a special emphasis on electricians, as there is growing demand for those skills in jobs that are part of reducing our carbon outlays and climate change. 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Automated Building Management Systems Classroom #3 Technology costs and environmental concerns are changing the way commercial buildings manage their energy needs. Learn about these jobs and how you can train for them. 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Lead Abatement and Residential Energy Retrofits Classroom #1 The city of Milwaukee is poised to make large investments in eliminating the dangers of lead in homes and addressing energy efficiency. Representatives from both sectors will explain what kinds of jobs are opening up and how to get the training and experience to get hired. 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Training and Education for Careers in Demand through MATC Classroom #2 Representative from MATC (Milwaukee Area Technical College) will provide information on what trainings are available in careers in high demand, as well as information on admissions, costs and scholarships, and tutoring support. MATC is committed to helping non-traditional students get in, stay in, and successfully move into good jobs. 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. How to Speak to Your Background in an Interview Classroom #3 Being able to effectively speak about a criminal background is an essential part of getting hired. In this session you will learn how to address your background in an interview that will help employers see your potential and help you land the job!
