Description
We're hiring an experienced sewist for our technical outdoor clothing and gear repair facility in Bend, OR. Our mission is to convert outdoor industry waste into a new economy while paying living wages during apprenticeship and family wages upon skill mastery. The training is extensive and ongoing with development paths. Please visit our website to learn more about us: www.ruggedthread.com. The position is full-time, approximately 35 hours sewing and five hours of repair process contribution weekly. Pay is calculated based on quality and efficiency standards as well as overall contribution. Repair work is different from production sewing as no two items are alike, and the learning does not end. It takes time, willingness, and patience to learn when to deconstruct, perform the repair, and reconstruct as good or better than new. We are developing systems to scale repairs nationally. You will learn the standard repairs that we see daily by using written documents with photos, steps, and one-on-one teaching. The apprenticeship training process is extensive and is in a continual development and documentation stage. Being a repair technician with Rugged Thread is a physically and mentally active job. The work requires the ability to plan, and problem solve. It requires physical mobility, moving large or awkward objects during the summer season, and transitioning from sitting to standing multiple times during a repair project. Our commitment and investment in training are extensive and ongoing. Therefore, we are looking to hire individuals who want to be part of our company and development for the long haul, who have roots established or have the capacity to build community in Central Oregon.
