Fids&Fibers Arborist Rope Splicing Workshop returns!! BigTop Fids&Fibers features 50% seats for Aerial, Circus & Theater world & 50% ARB! BigTop Fids&Fibers is a limited attendance event! 12 students! We'll offer 6 seats to folks from the Aerial , Circus & Theater industry .... and 6 seats to the Arborist industry. The goal is to cross pollinate ideas and discussions about rope and being at height. This workshop is also limited to 12 to reduce the risk of Covid19 transmission. We will be requiring proof of vaccination and Covid tests within 72 hours of the event. And asking that you reduce your exposure by staying within your core circle (or pod) for 72 hours before arriving at the workshop. For that reason, we prefer students to drive rather than fly-into this event. Yes, we realize that these measures are stringent. We are safety trainers.... to do less than our best is counterproductive to our message. Our goal is to provide a maskless, socially distanced workshop. Learning to splice life-support products is an intimate activity. As a presenter I want everyone to clearly witness my communication and as a mentor I need to see every student expression. Whether it be confusion, frustration, elation or triumph! That way I can offer help, support and direction at the appropriate moments. We've consulted the Eventbrite Covid-19 Risk Assessment worksheets, the Eventbrite Covid-19 Safety Checklist and the State of NH Universal Best Practices document to bring you a safe, responsible and well thought out workshop experience. (Links below) Please read them before attending the workshop and feel free to call with any questions. If you feel symptoms or have been in contact with anyone diagnosed with Covid-19, please be responsible and sign up for a future workshop when it is safe to do so. More details about this workshop: With an 8:00am start time and a 10:00pm finishing time, we'll be covering A LOT of ground. This is a beginners splicing workshop and we'll cover the background topics of rope, fibers, construction, intended purposes and fiber composition. We foster an open learning environment and WILL meander as topics and questions arise. Yet we will make 9-10 functional products during our time together. The course is designed to give you a successful experience splicing a variety of rope constructions, diameters and rope tools. We WILL cover how each tool is used in the field and Best Practices for installing and using these tools. Handouts will be provided, Hardware is included in the course fee and all rope fiber is included. Our rope sponsor for this workshop is the Fabulous Yale Cordage from Saco, Maine! You will keep all the products, hardware and handouts from this course. All attendees will receive a certificate of completion suitable for framing. Nuts & bolts about this workshop: Accommodations are on site. Prepare for "House Camping". Bring a camping pad, cot, inflatable mattress, sleeping bag, pillow, toiletries and whatever you need for the overnight(s). There will be separate rooms for ladies and gentlemen. Privacy after very long learning days is at a premium and everyone's need for privacy and sleep will be respected. Food is a community affair. You are asked to bring your favorite family recipe to share with the group. There will be an email list so that everyone can plan whether they're bringing a breakfast, lunch or dinner item. With 12 people to feed, the kitchen will open at 6:00am. (I hope someone brings a coffee maker and coffee!) We will all pitch in at different times... when it's time for your meal, you'll heat it up and serve it. Other times you'll help with the cleanup, doing dishes and keeping the kitchen tidy. Each student must bring their own plate, cup, bowl, fork, spoon and knife. Please label your belongings. And be prepared to tell the group why the meal you brought is your favorite, and embellish memories about how you and your family enjoyed that meal together. Mealtimes at Fids&Fibers always bring out the best in our community and I'm looking forward to sharing meals with all of you! Continuing Education Credits: For those in the Arborist community, we will be requesting 20 TCIA CTSP Credits AND 20 ISA Certified Arborist Credits! For those in the Aerial, Circus & Theater arts, please put us in contact with your CEU contact and we will endeavor to help you claim credit for all your hard work gathering knowledge about rope and splicing. Arrival and Class times: You may wish to arrive Friday December 3rd to get settled. The house will be open from NOON December 3rd on. It is tradition for students to arrive early and participate in the final preparations for the workshop. We'll be cutting fiber, setting up tables, chairs, laying out hardware and packets. There will be time to organize the kitchen and claim your sleeping location. There is ample parking. Class will start promptly at 8:00am each day. We will begin the day with ceremony, a guided meditation and the burning of sage to purify our workshop space and intentions. This is an endurance event. We intentionally pack the agenda with information and activities in order to maximize your time away from your daily lives. The information you will absorb would be best suited for a 3 or better even, 4 day workshop.... and the skills you will learn will take a lifetime to perfect. So, I will be asking a lot of you in time, attention and effort. And I will be giving you everything I have as a guide, mentor and teacher to ensure you have a safe, productive, enlightening and curiosity satiating weekend. I can't wait to spend the weekend with all of you! Course fees: The two day course and lodging is $400. We are offering beginner splicing kits that normally retail for $100 for the student discounted price of $85. You will need the splicing kit to complete this course. Additional splicing supplies and hardware will be available for purchase during the workshop. Payment for additional supplies can be made with cash or paypal.
