Brian Cardany, director. The American Band is a symphonic concert band comprised of over 50 adult musicians from Rhode Island and nearby Connecticut and Massachusetts. Our repertoire is both versatile and traditional with works ranging from classical to popular, marches and operatic overtures to modern works for band. A number of smaller ensembles are also formed within the band. The band has a long and colorful history extending back to 1837, making the American Band one of the oldest continuously active bands in the United States. The American Band performance season extends from September through July with both public and private performances, indoors and out. ~ All visitors to the University of Rhode Island are required to wear a mask while in any of our buildings. This is current URI policy and we are unable to make exceptions to this rule. Our protocol for seating patrons in the concert hall will require at least one empty seat between your party and any other guests. This will reduce our seating capacity. Please purchase your tickets in advance if possible and allow sufficient time in advance of the event to allow our ushers to seat you.
