TAMPA, FL — A man is facing a number of charges, including trying to elude a state trooper at speeds over 100 mph, after causing a crash Interstate 275.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, on Tuesday at 3:19 a.m., Willie D. Lloyd Jr., 40, of St. Petersburg, was spotted in a Nissan Maxima heading west on Interstate 4 near Orient Road, tailgating another vehicle and flashing his headlights.
The trooper attempted to stop the Nissan but said Lloyd sped away. The trooper gave chase at speeds of more than 100 mph until they reached the southbound exit ramp to Interstate 275.
That's where Lloyd crashed into a TG Lee tractor-trailer truck carrying milk driven by a 44-year-old Orlando man. Lloyd then attempted to flee on foot but was caught by another trooper.
A 31-year-old woman passenger from Largo in his car was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Another passenger, a 34-year-old woman from St. Petersburg, suffered minor injuries.
Lloyd was charge with driving under the influence, DUI series injury, DUI property damage, fleeing and eluding, driving while his license was suspended, leaving the scene of a crash with an injury, resisting arrest without violence, possession of marijuana, possession of an open liquor bottle, possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, and on a burglary warrant out of Pinellas County.
