Description

The Darien YWCA held its 2nd annual luminary lighting on Sunday October 24th to raise awareness about Domestic Violence against women and girls. Residents in Darien & Norwalk lit thousands of luminaries and placed them along front yards, sidewalks or driveways, creating a ribbon of light to visually recognize and support the silent victims, survivors and lost lives in our community, and raise public awareness around domestic violence. Proceeds from the sale of the luminary kits will support The Darien Domestic Abuse Council's efforts to send children to Camp Hope, and the YWCA's advocacy and mission-driven programming and initiatives. The YWCA also partnered with The Darien Domestic Abuse council to create an email awareness campaign with important resources and information about Domestic Violence awareness and prevention. Luminary night was supported by the following local businesses: Schoonmaker George Colin Blomberg Bryniczka & Welsh P.C. Family & Matrimonial Law, Barrett Bookstore, Cross Private Client Insurance, Darien Bank & Trust, DR Bank, Darien Pilates, Darien Sport Shop, Palmer's Darien, The Water's Edge Restaurant, The Corbin District, Ring's End and Ruddy Builders. The YWCA Darien/Norwalk is a non-profit organization dedicated to giving women the support and tools they need to transform their lives, be confident in their choices and raise healthy families. Its national mission, eliminating racism and empowering women, translates locally into a vision to create opportunities for growth, leadership and empowerment for all women and families. The YWCA Darien/Norwalk is located at 49 Old King's Highway North in Darien, CT. For more information, please visit www.ywcadn.org
